Benefits of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a great way to improve the appearance of your skin and reduce the signs of aging. Chemical peels use a chemical solution to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin underneath. This can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, even out skin tone, treat acne scars, age spots, and sun damage.

At Ethos Aesthetics + Wellness in Sparta Township NJ our board-certified physicians, and Katelyn Ceccarelli (board-certified family nurse practitioner) offer a variety of chemical peels that can be tailored to meet your individual needs. There are different types of chemical peels available at Ethos Spa that vary in strength and intensity.

Depending on what you want to achieve with your peel there are three types available:

Superficial Peel: A superficial peel uses mild acids such as glycolic or lactic acid which penetrate only the outermost layers of the epidermis (the top layer of skin). These treatments are used for light exfoliation and rejuvenation.

They’re often referred to as “lunchtime” or “weekend” peels because they require little downtime afterward. They can also be used for treating hyperpigmentation (uneven patches) due to sun exposure or melasma (darkened areas due to hormones).

Medium Peel: Medium depth chemical peels use stronger acids such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA) which penetrate deeper into the dermis than light peels do.

These treatments target more severe issues like deep wrinkles and acne scarring while still requiring minimal downtime afterwards. They also work well for removing pre-cancerous growths caused by too much sun exposure over time.

Deep Peel: Deep peel, also known as phenol peel, is an aggressive form of chemical exfoliation that removes the top layers of skin. It can help reduce signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation or discoloration due to sun exposure or acne scarring.

These procedures involve applying a solution containing phenolic acid to the skin which causes it to blister and eventually peel off. This leaves behind new, healthy-looking skin with improved texture and tone. They can also improve overall skin texture by removing dead cells from the surface layer of your complexion.

Whether you choose superficial, medium or deep chemical peel treatments at Ethos Aesthetics + Wellness, we will leave you feeling refreshed with an improved complexion.

Aftercare Tips

After receiving a chemical peel at Ethos Spa, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by our board-certified physicians in order to ensure optimal results.

  1. Avoid sunlight: Avoid direct sunlight for at least two weeks following your procedure. Sun exposure can cause skin irritation and increase the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
  2. Use sunscreen: When outdoors, use sunscreen with SPF 30+ to protect your skin from further damage. Additionally, avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours after the procedure as this could cause excessive redness and swelling.
  3. Moisturize: It’s crucial to moisturize regularly with a gentle moisturizer or lotion recommended by our physicians. This will keep your skin hydrated and prevent dryness which can lead to itching and discomfort.
  4. Avoid Retinoids & Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Retinoids and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are both common ingredients found in many skincare products. However, these powerful exfoliants can cause irritation when used too soon after a chemical peel.
  5. Avoid Alcohol Consumption: Alcohol consumption is another activity that should be avoided for at least 48 hours following a chemical peel procedure. Alcohol may interfere with the healing process by increasing inflammation and causing flushing of the skin. Alcohol also causes dehydration, which further slows down recovery, so stay hydrated during your recovery period!

Contact us immediately if you experience any pain, burning sensation or excessive redness/swelling that persists more than 48 hours after treatment. We will assess whether additional medical attention is needed.
