Spring has finally come. Soon, it’ll time to ditch our winter layers and slip on our warm weather clothes.
But that means revealing some of our hairy bits. It means we’ll have to remove that hair as we always have, using our trusty razors. But seriously. Who enjoys shaving?
You may have spent the winter allowing the hair on your body to do its thing. When you’re all covered up, you don’t need to think about it as much and if I’m not mistaken, most of us choose to let the “field go fallow”.
But that’s not an option when the warm weather hits. How great would it be to throw away your razor with laser hair removal? If you’re reading this, you’re probably about ready to take the plunge, so we’re going to let you know a little more about laser hair removal.
The hair growth myth
Many people desire to rid themselves of excess hair with laser hair removal but dread the perceived requirement to let their hair grow out. The very idea!
But it’s a myth. You can even shave the day of your treatment. What you can’t do is wax or pluck. These methods pull out the hair follicle and you need that follicle to be in place, so laser hair removal technology can remove it.
The lasers used in laser hair removal target pigmentation. They go to the follicle and kill it, due to its dark color. With only a few sessions, you can be hair free.
The growth cycle
Like everything else, body hair growth is cyclical. That means your current follicles aren’t the same ones that will exist on your body tomorrow. That’s why laser hair removal requires several sessions to remove hair and may require occasional touchups to keep you hair-free in the treated areas.
What laser hair removal does is reduce the number of hair follicles, so you can throw your razor away. Everyone’s different in this regard, as our hair grows at varying speeds. It’s also important to note that differently pigmented hair/skin combinations require specific types of lasers for the best results.
Dormant hair follicles contain less pigment, making it difficult for laser hair removal to target them. It’s only the active hair follicles which contain sufficient pigment that can be successfully addressed.
How long does it take?
Different parts of the body take longer to treat. For example, the back can take an hour to an hour and a half, whereas other parts of the body may take 10 minutes. Some people also have more hair to address, so session length depends on who we’re treating and where.
Most people are satisfied with results after 6 to 8 sessions. Some are happy after only 4. But on average, laser hair removal gives you the best results. Even electrolysis can’t do what laser hair removal can achieve.
