Justin* came into our office recently. He is now 30 years old but suffered from severe acne as a teen. He had “rolling(wide)” scarring on his cheeks and was ready to improve his appearance. Bellafill is the only FDA approved dermal filler on the market approved for the correction of moderate to severe atrophic acne scarring on the neck and cheeks of patients 21 and over. Bellafill works in two ways: 1. The collagen provides immediate volume below the atrophic scar to lift them to the same level of the surrounding skin and 2. The PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports endogenous collagen production. The best candidates for Bellafill will pass the 3 S’s test. The scars will be smooth when stretched(skin almost appears normal when stretched), have soft shoulders in the scar area and will be saucer-like.
The Dr. was able to successfully fill Justin’s scars and improve his appearance after two treatments. The severity of the scarring will determine how many treatments are needed per patient. Most patients see results after the first treatment and may only need touch-ups after 6-12 months.
