Facial fillers are becoming a “go to” solution for those who want to put their best face forward. As always, the internet offers copious advice, but because we’re a doctor-directed cosmetic spa, we thought our readers might like to get the 411 straight from the horse’s mouth.
So, this post is about everything you need to know about getting fillers. Not finding what you’re looking for in this post? Contact us and we’ll be happy to schedule a free consultation to answer any other questions you may have about facial fillers.
What they are.
Facial fillers are injectable formulations, often containing naturally-occurring substances like hyaluronic acid. Their role is to restore the volume lost in our faces, as we age. Gravity is one of skin’s enemies, but we also lose crucial bone and muscle mass, as well as collagen, which is what keeps our skin elastic, strong and smooth.
Facial fillers are injected into areas which are showing signs of wear, like the labial folds running between the nose and mouth and the area between the eyes, where an “11” can form, from frowning.
Are they the same as Botox?
The short answer is “no”. While both treatments have the same delivery method (injection), they don’t perform the same purpose or action.
Botox serves to limit the range of motion in muscle groups we use to form certain expressions (especially those used for frowning – the expression at fault for most signs of aging). Fillers, alternatively, act to restore volume to your face, imparting a fresher, more youthful appearance.
Am I a candidate?
If you have realistic expectations of what fillers are capable of, you’re probably a good candidate. But realistic expectations are key.
Facial fillers can improve your appearance by re-creating you as a better version of yourself. They can’t erase all signs of time and aren’t intended to. With fillers, you should look refreshed and natural – not like somebody else entirely.
At Ethos Spa, we’re diligent about consulting with guests to ensure they understand what they can realistically expect. We’re here to help you look stunning and feel amazing and like yourself on a great day.
Is there recovery time involved?
Again, the short answer is “no”. But for a limited number of individuals, minor bruising may result for a day or two and there may be slight swelling at the site of the injection. Most guests can return to their normal, daily activities immediately.
What’s with all the different kinds?
From Restylane to Juvederm, facial fillers are performing the same, basic purpose – to restore volume. But each formulation is slightly different in its efficacy for certain areas, the depth of lines involved and other factors.
Most physicians know the fillers they offer well and can focus treatments based on that knowledge, for optimal results.
